Our Story

Why We Started Matchacursus

Matchacursus was born from a traditional matcha café. KYŌ-KLUB opened in Amsterdam sourcing ceremonial-grade matcha directly from Uji, Japan, and serving thousands of guests who kept asking the same question: where can we actually learn to do this properly?

Matchacursus is our answer. Whether you're a café team that needs to serve matcha with confidence and consistency, or an individual who wants to understand and prepare it properly at home, we teach exactly what we practice every day at KYŌ-KLUB.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

01What's the difference between the professional and enthusiast sessions?

Matchacursus offers two kinds of sessions: the professional Masterclasses (private, 4 to 5 hours, groups of 4 to 8, for café teams) and the Matcha Workshop (shared, 1.5 hours, from 1 person, for individuals). The Masterclasses are built around genuinely training your team to a professional standard, with real technique, sourcing knowledge, and certification depth, while the Matcha Workshop is built around a relaxed, enjoyable introduction to matcha for individuals. Choose whichever matches what you're looking for when you book.

02How much do the professional Masterclasses cost?

The Matchacursus Masterclass is €229 per person and the Matcha & Hojicha Masterclass is €289 per person, both excluding VAT. Groups are billed for a minimum of 4 people even if fewer attend.

03How much does the Matcha Workshop cost?

The Matcha Workshop is €65 per person, including VAT. You can add a 30g KYŌ-KLUB matcha can to take home for €30.

04How long do the sessions take?

The Matchacursus Masterclass runs 4 hours and the Matcha & Hojicha Masterclass runs 5 hours. The Matcha Workshop runs 1.5 hours, in the evening between 19:30 and 21:00.

05What's the group size for the professional Masterclasses?

Professional Masterclasses are booked for groups of 4 to 8 people. Every session is private, no other groups are mixed in, so it's exclusively your team for the full masterclass.

06Can I join the Matcha Workshop on my own?

Yes. The Matcha Workshop welcomes individuals from 1 person upward, up to a maximum of 8 people sharing the session. It runs once at least 4 people have joined that timeslot.

07Where do sessions take place?

Every session is held in person at KYŌ-KLUB, Kinkerstraat 334 in Amsterdam. There is no online or remote option.

08Do I need any prior experience?

No prior experience is required for either the professional Masterclasses or the Matcha Workshop, from complete beginners to those refining their technique.

09How do I book and pay?

Book directly through our booking flow: choose your session type, package, date and time, group size, and billing details. We'll confirm your session and send your invoice.

10What's your cancellation policy?

Professional Masterclass bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the session, and Matcha Workshop bookings up to 48 hours before. Cancellations after that point receive a 50% refund instead of a full one.

11What makes this certification authentic?

Every session is taught by the KYŌ-KLUB team, the same people who source ceremonial-grade matcha directly from Uji, Japan and prepare it for guests at our café every day. What we teach is what we practice.

12Do you accommodate allergies or dietary requirements?

Yes. For the Matcha Workshop we ask about allergies during booking, so the paired Japanese sweets can be adjusted accordingly. For the professional Masterclasses you work with the ingredients directly, so let us know about any dietary requirements in advance by email.

13How do I get to KYŌ-KLUB, and is there parking?

KYŌ-KLUB is at Kinkerstraat 334 in De Kinkerbuurt in Amsterdam, a one minute walk from tram stop Kinkerstraat (lines 3, 5, and 19). Street parking nearby is paid, and arriving by bike is faster.

14Can I get the invoice under my company name, and is VAT deductible?

Yes. For a business booking we ask for your company name and, optionally, your VAT or Chamber of Commerce number, and you receive an invoice made out to your company. The Masterclasses are priced excluding VAT, so you can process it the usual way.
